Survivorman is a camp where youth learn how to camp and handle themselves in situations where they may not have all of their normal camping gear and comforts. It pits our ventures against nature with not much more than their wits.

The Scenario - Imagine you are off to Vent Camp.  Your tent is pitched, camp is set up and you grab your day pack and head off into the woods on a hike with your friends Stumpy and Fibber McGee.  You are not gone for very long when you realize that someone you have got turned around and you’re not sure where you are.  What do you do?   Well, you could wander around aimlessly in the woods and hope that you eventually recognize something or you could make camp where you are, and wait for someone to come and find you.  You look in your day pack and realize that you have several items that may prove useful but others, like that hello Kitty key chain attached to your pack that may turn into your only weapon to defend yourself if you are attacked by a rabid squirrel.

As you search around the site you do find a few items that may help with your camp, such as an old tin can but mostly what you see are sticks and trees and rocks and leaves, and of course a worn out Stumpy and Fibber McGee..

You decide instead of getting even further lost you will settle down for the night, find a good place to set up and camp and wait to be rescued.   The first order of business is for you to find a decent place to make your camp, construct some sort of shelter and get a fire going to stay warm.  Then within your notebook, you set out to record your adventure - or write you last will and testament.

The first thing you discover is that you, Stumpy and Fibber McGee cannot agree on where to make your camp.  Fibber Mcgee wants to set up camp in an open field, that way if you build a fire it will not set any trees on fire.   Stumpy wants to set up camp beside a creek as there will be fresh water nearby in a little swale that water has washed out making it easy to get up and down from the creek.  You have decided that since a light rain is starting to fall and it looks like there are some big gray clouds full of rain - or worse snow - on its way you need to set up camp in a clump of fir trees that will offer some shelter from the wind and the rain you expect to get pelted on through the night.

Oh what to do, what to do…..if only you had gone to Survivorman camp and learned some simple tricks on how to survive a night or two out in the woods then you might be better prepared for the wet weather which is quickly approaching and for negotiating with stubborn old Stumpy and Fiber McGee.

Survivor man will give you that opportunity to learn how to survive in the woods.  Supervised by numerous Vent advisers and former survivors of the camp Survivorman camp allows Venturer Scouts to experience and learn about roughing it in the woods.   The point of the camp is to learn.  If you do not know where to build a shelter, we will help you with that, if you do not know how to lay and start a fire with flint come along and we will show you how to do that too.
